Thank you Santa Barbara!

I am so thrilled and honored to have won the Santa Barbara poster art contest this year (2020). Announcement below from Solstice committee .

"While many incredible works of art by local artists were submitted for the annual poster and t-shirt contest, the Summer Solstice Celebration is excited to announce that Katreece Montgomery has been selected as the winner of the 2020 Santa Barbara Summer Solstice t-shirt and poster contest!

Her work titled “Beautiful Earth” received the most votes at the 1st Thursday exhibit held at Cafe Ana on March 5th, 2020 and has been selected as this year’s winner of the competition by the Solstice board of directors. "

"Beautiful Earth"

My illustration submission for Summer Solstice 2020 is inspired by my parent's magical Santa Barbara garden, featuring botanical flourishes ensconced within a global sphere floating amidst a starry night sky, accented with hand-drawn typography.

Plants help us understand the ever-changing cycles of life, and remind us to tend our inner gardens at each stage in order for our souls to truly blossom. Gardens foster our connection to Mother Earth and provide an inherently peaceful sanctuary.

The butterfly symbolizes the sometimes difficult transformational process one endures along their spirit journey. It embodies the beauty the future promises, if we are able to allow and trust the unfolding of Nature's Divine plan.

The bees depict our Universal connection to the natural world and to eachother.  As they travel between flowers, they demonstrate that even the smallest actions matter and 'pollinate' all of humanity.

Finally, the stars represent that we are all made of stardust. from stars we are born, and to the stars we will return.

"Help us to be ever faithful gardeners of the spirit, who know that without darkness nothing comes to birth, and without light nothing flowers"

-May Sarton
